“When you can be yourself in the difficult setting of your family of origin, you can be yourself anywhere, and you will be better able to deal with current relationship problems in a flexible and appropriate way”.
- Ronald Richardson, author of ‘Family Ties That Bind’

About Me
Brenda Parkinson B. Ed., M.Sc. - Marital and Family Therapy
Eleanor Roosevelt’s famous line “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”, describes a well-differentiated person.
The goal of family of origin work is to be able to clearly think about what you want for yourself and act on it, while maintaining close relationships with others - to be differentiated.
Whether we realize it or not, there is usually unfinished business in the family we grew up in. The more we know about our family history, the more we can know about ourselves. No matter what our current relationship with the family we were born into, the importance of family cannot be underestimated.
Brenda is a Registered Psychologist in private practice since 2004. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, and her Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University, California, (Canadian Campus).
Brenda provides therapy to individuals, couples and families facing psychological challenges and stressors. Her treatment focus includes family of origin work, which looks at how relationships and patterns in the past influence present choices.
Her special interest is in the integration of mind, body and spirit, and where appropriate, incorporates this approach in her therapy.
